COPACO solutions victorious at the ECMA/ProCarton awards and WorldStar 02

The COPACO Group – to which the Faller Group (Waldkirch, Lörrach & Schopfheim), Karl Knauer (Biberach), the Rob. Leunis & Chapman Group (Berlin & Hanover) and Limmatdruck/Zeiler (Spreitenbach & Köniz/Switzerland) belong – was extremely successful at the leading international award ceremony for carton packaging.

The group was victorious in two categories at the Pro Carton/ECMA folding carton competition 2002: the \"Bahlsen Kuppelkuchen“ (a dome-shaped cake) by Rob. Leunis & Chapman Group (Berlin & Hanover) was chosen as the best confectionery packaging; in the category \"non-food\" Limmatdruck/Zeiler (Spreitenbach & Köniz/Switzerland) was triumphant with its solution for Alldays Tanga panty liners. The prizes are awarded annually by the European fold-ing carton associations Pro Carton and ECMA for new developments which are convincing in design, shape, and functionality by using new and creative concepts. Additionally, the Bahlsen Kuppelkuchen packaging by Rob. Leunis & Chapman also gained a WorldStar 2002. With this prize the World Packaging Organisation honours the most innovative folding cartons world-wide in the past two years.

The winning solution for Bahlsen’s Kuppelkuchen is convincing in particular as the Rob. Leunis & Chapman Group has covered the whole value added chain. The innovative one-piece packaging was developed jointly with the customer, the packaging designer and the mechanical engineering company VSE, which constructed a special machine specifically for this project. The whole co-ordination of this complex project was carried out by the Rob. Leunis & Chapman Group. In addition, the EMCA jury emphasised the connection between design and functionality as well as the design of the packaging, which reflects the shape of the contents and therefore appeals to the customer. With remarkable success: between two and three million of these packages are now produced and sold per year.

The equally honoured Alldays packaging by Limmatdruck-Zeiler was praised by the experts in particular for its unusual shape which is based on the shape of the product and is reminiscent of exclusive cosmetics packaging. This way traditional opinions of a well-known product can be turned upside down and be made appealing to younger people, according to the jury. In addition, the unusual shape also requires little space on the shop shelves and refutes the wide-spread opinion that only simple rectangular-shaped folding cartons are suitable for the best space utilisation possible.
